With the Americana trend taking the menswear world by storm, Woolrich and all of its sub-brands that I can’t keep track of are seeing a huge spike in popularity. Blackbird recently received a new wallet from the Woolrich John Rich & Bros brand and despite all the attention its gotten, I’m not very impressed by it. Sure, it’s handmade in Italy with premium leather, but one look at the inside and you’ll notice its lack of slots, pockets, and therefore, functionality. My current wallet has three slots somehow housing about thirteen gift cards, credit cards, and club cards (CVS what it do), so I can’t see the above wallet being very useful. Bottom line: I’ll ignore this wallet and continue drooling over Woolrich’s chinos and work shirts.

Lark has created a billfold wallet with fellow Vancouverite, Tannis Hegan. It’s handmade with goat hide and silk lining and even comes with a cotton bag with leather patch. There’s really no use for the bag, but little packaging details like this are often the deciding factor for me when choosing a product. The wallet is vegetable tanned, which means it will become even more beautiful than it already is. Don’t sleep, because only 30 were made!

Call me bland, but grey is one of my favorite colors (along with black and beige). Combine that with my favorite bag and you have the latest Visvim collection. The Ballistic trio includes the 20L backpack, 18L E-Cat Messenger Bag, and Bi-Fold wallet. The only thing missing is the in-between sized 8L Lumbar Bag.

They were available at the honeyee store, but sold out quickly. Hopefully there are other places to find them…

Porter has teamed up with Levi’s for a collection of bags and cases ranging from key holders to waist bags to totes. Each item is available in black or brown canvas and features the iconic red tab attached to the Porter label.

Oak received some new bags and wallets from Surface to Air. The collection uses 100% calf leather in various treatments including textured and patent. My favorite is the Carbon Big Wallet because of the grey textured leather, but the wallet itself seems really inconvenient with its many zippers and sideways slots.

Opening Ceremony is hooking up with everyone, that slut of a brand. This time it’s with famed leather goods company, Billykirk. The diverse collection includes many Billykirk-style bags and cases in bright, non-Billykirk-style colors. Personally, I don’t think the rainbow colors are a good look for any leather goods. The only bags I like in this collection are the carryalls, which are the most subtle but still vibrant. Check out the entire collection at the Opening Ceremony online store.

Mismo will be releasing some new pieces this December under their Full Grain Leather collection. The additions will include a tote, wallet, and laptop case. I really like how the laptop case has a zipper running along two sides of it. It’s pretty common to see that on wallets, so I’m surprised I haven’t seen it done on a laptop case until now.

Three new zip wallets from Billykirk are now available at Blackbird: a gusseted card case, a billfold wallet, and a longer gusseted wallet. Billykirk is well-known for their high quality leather goods, and these wallets are no different. They’re handmade in the USA and feature unfinished leather lining with riri zippers. If I had to choose one of these three wallets, I’d choose the billfold because it’s the same size as my current wallet and I’m afraid of change.

Visvim is releasing a series of canvas bags including a tote bag, wallet, and waist bag. The waist bag is my favorite bag of this collection, even though I don’t know when I’d ever wear one (waist bags, aka fanny packs, just scream “Asian tourist”).

The brand is notoriously expensive, usually because of the exotic leathers they use for their products, so it makes me wonder why their canvas products would be just as pricey. These are available at NOS.
